Peat moss has a natural moisture
content of approximately 60% when harvested from
a bog. Northstar uses a proprietary drying process
similar to a hot air popcorn maker that dries the
peat removing the water content. The moisture content
of Peat Sorb is below 10%. This alters the characteristics
of the peat moss. The peat now repels water (hydrophobic)
and attracts and encapsulates all hydrocarbons on
contact. Once the Peat Sorb has absorbed the hydrocarbon
it will not release it until the hydrocarbon has
biodegraded and is harmless to the environment.
